Another Independence Day Behind Us

The 4th of July in Sutherland turned out to be absolutely wonderful! Nearly the whole town (and a lot of visitors) turned out for the kids races at 9:00 a.m. This has been a tradition for as long as I can remember, and there are running races, sack races and three-legged races for ages barely-walking through adult!
As you can see, the kids give it their all.

Even before the end of the races, there was quite a line for the frog races. There were more than 100 entrants, 10 heats, the finals and first, second, and third-place overall winners. Each child who entered a frog (mostly toads) received 50 cents, then the winners received $25 for first, $15 for second, and $10 for third. It's all great fun.
The owners of these frogs match any owner of a Kentucky Derby race horse in the intensity with which they watch the races.
Dads shoulders provide a birds-eye view of the excitement.

The excitement of the races over, the kids' attention turns to the delightful playhouse made by Seifer Construction being raffled off with the proceeds going to the Pool Committee.  Heard they made several thousand dollars. A great example of community activism.
So, that's it. The rest of the day I got caught up in "doing" and not recording. The community barbecue was fantastic, the Parade great fun (we actually had enough candy to get through it by being prudent in our throwing!), the kids spent a long afternoon at the lake, the Mister and I enjoyed a nice meal with friends and family, then the Rodeo, Concert by Bynded and beer garden, lots of fireworks and to bed!

Why does it always go by so fast when it finally gets here?

Hoping that you all shared a wonderful 4th, with many more in the future.

Thanks for stopping by.  The coffee is always on.
