Now let’s talk about Sargent. Sargent is known as Nebraska’s Antique Capital and is ground zero for the annual Junk Jaunt held the last full weekend in September annually. Sargent is located in Custer County, which at one time was Nebraska’s 4th most populous county! Now it’s known for its quaint small towns and stunning Sandhills scenery.
Just south of town is the Middle Loup River, which flows southeastward towards Comstock, home of the annual Comstock Windmill Festival. Heading north on Highway 183 you’ll come to Taylor Nebraska, known for the Taylor Villagers and the Bootleg Brewery! Within a short drive are the Calamus Reservoir, Sherman Reservoir and Davis Creek Reservoir for water fun.
The business community in Sargent can supply all of your basic needs. You’ll find a grocery store along with a local butcher shop for fresh meats. There are also numerous antique (hence the Antique Capital moniker) and gift shops. A lumber and hardware store will be one of your favorite shops as you begin work on this ‘fixer upper’.
One of the charms of Sargent is its remote location, so you may have to trek for more than just the basic necessities. Local trading centers of Broken Bow and Ord are each about a half hour away. In about an hour and a half you can be in the bustling city of of Grand Island. Three and a half hours gets you to Omaha.

If you’ve found that you yearn for smaller populations and a slower pace of life, Sargent may just be for you! Especially if you can telework.
